Phoenix Tours uses inflatable kayaks for all their river tours. They are comfortable and extremely maneuverable, especially going through rapids. You can choose from both single and double kayaks.
Phoenix Tours owns an L300 Mitsubishi Van to provide all transportation needed for tours. This includes hotel pick ups and drops offs as well transport to the river to load kayaks into the water as well as picking you up downstream.
The Mopan River is ideal for kayaking because of its diversity. You’ll find calm waters where you gently paddle along through lush jungles spotting birds and other wildlife. Mopan River Kayaking Classic Tour
Price per Person: US$70
Start of Tour: Your kayaking tour will begin on the Mopan River near the Belize-Guatemala border. You’ll go upstream just about as far as you can go without a passport! After inflating your kayaks you’ll paddle along the river and start your kayaking adventure.
Next Stop, Clarissa Falls: From the Belize-Guatemala border it’s about 2 hours of paddling to Clarrisa Falls. This stretch of river has a collection of Class II and Class III white water rapids that are fairly easy but the sound and speed of the water will certainly get your hear beating fast! Once you reach Clarissa Falls you’ll stop at Clarissa Falls Resort & Restaurant, which overlooks the falls, to grab a tasty lunch.
Last Stop, Calla Creek: After lunch, you’ll hop back on the river and continue paddling along the river for another hour to Calla Creek. This stretch of river is very calm and offers you a chance to take in the lush jungle. Your guide will point out birds and other wildlife along the river banks. Once you reach Calla Creek you’ll pull your kayaks out of the river and your transport vehicle will be waiting to take you back to your hotel.
Mopan River Kayaking with Maya Ruins of Xunantunich

Xunantunich: This expanded tour includes the exact same itinerary as the Classic Tour above with the addition of a stop at the Maya Ruins of Xunantunich. About halfway between the Belize-Guatemala border where your tour starts and Clarissa Falls where you’ll grab lunch is Xunantunich. You’ll pull your kayaks out of the river and hike around the Maya Ruins as your guide explains the unique history of this site. The view from atop El Castillo, the tallest pyramid in the complex, is breathtaking. After your exploration of the Maya Ruins you’ll put your kayaks back into the river and continue with the rest of the kayaking tour past Clarissa Falls all the way to Calla Creek.
