Belcampo Lodge Belize

Nestled in the verdant hills above the Caribbean coast of southern Belize, Belcampo Lodge Belize is a self-contained sanctuary from the everyday world. The main lodge is the communal heart of the resort, with dining and lounge areas, our concierge and lobby, a well-appointed gift shop, and observation decks open to stunning vistas of the coast, Maya Mountains and seemingly endless pristine rainforest. Accommodations consist of 12 individual, privately sited suites with comfortable sleeping and relaxing spaces, screened fresh-air verandas, and luxurious spa-style baths.

A sheltered garden path connects the main lodge to our beautifully designed spa, with a stunning pool and sundeck just outside. Beyond the pool lies a sweeping lawn where guests gather for high tea, as well as a communal fire pit – the ideal location for evening relaxation and socializing. Our 400’ private tram stands ready to whisk you down to the lodge’s riverside deck, where our waterfront dining area and Maya bar await. From here, you may also embark on tranquil cruises on the jungle reaches of the Rio Grande, with the Caribbean only minutes away.

About Us

Machaca Hill Rainforest Canopy Lodge is now Belcampo Belize. We are excited to announce this change in name with the transition in ownership and management under our new parent company, Belcampo. Belcampo is an international hospitality, food and agriculture venture based in Oakland, California that owns and manages farms in California, Uruguay, and now, Belize. In 2005, Todd Robinson, the investor behind Belcampo, purchased Machaca Hill Lodge after becoming involved in the region as a philanthropist interested in marine conservation. This year, he co-founded the Belcampo group of ventures with CEO Anya Fernald and transferred ownership of the lodge to the new venture.

Our commitment to offer our guests an exceptional hospitality experience is unchanged. We are also excited to bring to our team, Zaven Yaralian, our new General Manager and Mara Jernigan, our Chef & Culinary Director. Over the next year we’ll continue to make changes and improvements to the lodge, farm and surrounding environment to enhance our offerings and the guest experience and to support the preservation and sustainable management of our natural resources.

If you have any questions or comments about our transition, please don’t hesitate to be in touch. We welcome your feedback!

Farms

At Belcampo Farms Belize, we’re building a place where travelers can learn the arts of producing the tropical products they consume every day, and where local farmers and food artisans can share ideas and techniques. Our organic garden provides tropical fruits and vegetables to our Lodge’s restaurant and culinary program. On our farm, we’re planting cacao, coffee, and cane for organic cultivation with a focus on heirloom, traditional, high-flavor varieties. Our farm’s vision and product selection is being developed is in close collaboration with our joint venture partners of coffee, chocolate and rum.

Scheduled to open in 2012, Belcampo Belize will debut its agritourism center along with epicurean classes focusing on cacao, coffee, and rum. Guests can tour our cacao farm, taste different varieties of the cacao fruit, and make custom chocolate bars. From harvesting of cacao pods to conching of the cacao matter to forming finished bars, courses will teach participants the skill and artistry of chocolate production. For the coffee-obsessed, come pick coffee cherries, pulp and then roast them over the Center’s authentic comal, and finally package a custom blend. Lastly, visitors interested in the rich rum history of the Caribbean will have the chance to observe and participate in the distilling process first-hand. Guests will be able to crush fresh sugar cane, watch the small-batch distilling process, and taste fresh rum agricole.
