The New River Lagoon is Belize’s largest body of fresh water. Surrounded by a diversity of habitats ranging from broad-leaf forests to wetlands it supports a great diversity of wildlife and flora. Along the banks of this lagoon you’ll see the Maya Ruins of Lamanai towering over the jungle canopy. It’s common for the water to be very calm and flat which makes the surface act like a mirror reflecting the sky. Exploring the lagoon by boat, canoe or kayak you’ll be sure to encounter lots of wildlife as well as beautiful natural landscapes.
